Privacy and cookies
StopToStop shows bus times for Norfolk and Suffolk. You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name, email address or any other personal details.
What we count, without cookies
To see how the site is used, we count page views, searches and journeys planned. We don't use cookies for this and we don't store your IP address: each visitor is counted once a day using a code made from a secret that changes every day, so we can't recognise you from one day to the next. Searches are counted as the words typed, with nothing that links them to you.
Google Analytics
Only if you choose Accept on the cookie banner, we also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies (named _ga) to understand how people find and use the site. Google processes this data, which may include your IP address, and can transfer it outside the UK; see Google's privacy policy. If you choose Reject, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of the home page; choosing Reject later removes the cookies.
Things your browser remembers
Your saved stops, routes and journeys, your journey options and your cookie choice are kept in your own browser (local storage). They're never sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Other services we use
- Place search: when you search for an address or place, the words you type are sent to the Photon geocoder (komoot) to find it.
- Maps: map tiles are loaded from OpenFreeMap.
- Your location: "Departures near me" and the map's locate button ask your browser (or phone) for your location. It's sent to our server only to look up the nearest stops, and isn't stored.
- Train tickets: links to Trainline and National Rail take you to their sites, which have their own privacy policies.
The iPhone and iPad app
The StopToStop app shows the same timetables and uses the same counting as the website, without Google Analytics. Your saved stops, routes and journeys stay on your device. It asks before it uses your location or sends notifications, and you can change either in the Settings app at any time.
- Disruption alerts: if you switch them on, your device's notification address (a code from Apple that only lets us send notifications to this app on your device) and the routes you've saved are sent to our server, so we can tell you when something changes on them. Switching alerts off removes your routes; we delete the notification address when Apple tells us the app has been removed, or after 60 days without use.
- Tracking a bus: when you track a bus, the journey, the stop and the notification address of the lock screen countdown are sent to our server, so we can keep the countdown up to date and alert you before the bus arrives. They're deleted when the bus has gone, or within 3 hours.
- Widgets: the home screen widget shows departures from stops you've saved; it asks our server for their times.
We don't use any of this to identify you, it isn't shared with anyone else, and it isn't used for advertising. Notifications are delivered by Apple's push notification service.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and our servers keep ordinary technical logs (for example, errors) for a short time to keep the service running.
